James M. Swinehart, M.D.

James M. Swinehart, M.D. is a board-certified Dermatologist, and has been in private practice in Denver, Colorado, since 1979. He was born in Seattle, Washington, and grew up in Fresno, California, where he was valedictorian of his high school class. The University of California at Berkeley was next attended for four years with a major in chemistry.

At Creighton University School of Medicine, he ranked third in his class of 85, graduating Cum Laude (with honors) as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society. During his residency at the University of Colorado, Dr. Swinehart received his specialty training and was Chief Resident in Dermatology in 1977-1978.

Professional society memberships include the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, American Society for Mohs Surgery, International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and Colorado Dermatologic Society (president in 1992). In addition, Dr. Swinehart founded the Colorado Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Dr. Swinehart has authored numerous articles in dermatology and dermatologic surgery journals. He has spoken at national meetings, including the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, American Society for Mohs Surgery, International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, Colorado Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery. He has also performed skin cancer screenings at several Lutheran churches in the Denver metro area.

Dr. Swinehart specializes in treatment of skin cancer and skin cancer surgery. Unwanted moles, cysts, growths, warts, and other lesions can often be treated in the office under local anesthesia. The skin cancer rate in Colorado is one of the highest in the nation owing to the high altitude ultraviolet light, and long history of sun exposure, in our state.

Thomas H. Swinehart

THOMAS H. SWINEHART is our Director of Research Operations. He has held this position since 1991, and has overall responsibility for the administrative, regulatory, contractual, and legal aspects of the Center's operations. He received his B.A. from the University of California (Berkeley) in 1971 and a J.D. from the University of Santa Clara in California in 1975. He is a member of the Bar in California, Colorado, and Idaho.

Carolyn Schmidt, R.N

CAROLYN SCHMIDT, R.N. has worked as a Study Coordinator at our Center since 1992. She received her B.S.N. from the University of Wyoming in 1966. She has worked on more than 60 clinical trials at our Center.

Mickey L. Chacon, CMA, CCRC

Mickey Chacon started at Colorado Dermatology Center as a Certified Medical Assistant in 1997. She transitioned over to our clinical research department as a Study Coordinator in 2011. She received her Certification as a Clinical Research Coordinator through ACRP in 2018. She has worked on more than 50 studies.
